US soy output likely at 92 million tonnes in 2010

US soy production in 2010 is likely to be around 92 million tonnes, little changed from a year earlier and lower than the government's projections of close to 95 million tonnes, a senior industry executive said Wednesday (Sep 15).

According to the American Soy Association vice-president Randy Mann, production may not be at a record high due to floods in Iowa and dry weather in some of the growing regions.

Meanwhile, the USDA has forecast the crop size at 94.79 million tonnes this year, up from 91.42 million tonnes in 2009.

Mann said the US soy harvest, which usually gathers pace by mid-October, will start at least 10 days ahead of schedule.
