South Africa eyes Cameroon agriculture

South African companies are seeking to invest in Cameroon's agriculture sector and have met with a positive response from the Cameroon government, a senior official said Monday (Sept 14).

The request came from a 10-man South African delegation, led by the Foreign Ministry's Central Africa director, Walter Themba Thabethe, which held a three-day-long meeting with several Cameroonian ministers last week.

"A request was made by the South Africa delegation to the Cameroon government for agreements to be reached in the mining, agriculture, telecommunications sectors. This was accepted by the Cameroonian party, which promised to speed up the signing of these conventions, once they specifically identified," said an official at Cameroon's Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development.
