Cargill to launch partial fishmeal replacer feed additive

Press Release

Cargill will introduce Hoplite, a natural yeast product designed to provide gut health benefits for fish and shrimp, improve palatability of feed and act as a partial fishmeal replacer, at the World Aquaculture Show in Veracruz, Mexico, during September 25-29, 2009.

Hoplite contains nucleotides and proteins that support the immune system and cell growth, which may improve the gut health of fish and shrimp, said Christine Cerkvenik, product manager.

Adding Hoplite to a feed formulation can improve palatability, thereby encouraging weight gain and overall productivity. In research trials, fish on diets containing Hoplite showed increased feed intake over fish on a regularly prescribed diet, according to Cerkvenik.

"Not only is Hoplite a natural yeast product that is sustainably sourced and competitively priced, but it can also partially replace a producer's use of fishmeal. It's an environmentally conscious addition to any feed programme," said Cerkvenik.
