Beef labeling more prevalent in Japan's foodservice industry

Country of origin labelling has become increasingly popular for foodservice companies in Japan, according to a survey by Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

About 70 percent of the food outlets in the country are providing country of origin information to consumers, the survey found.

Companies are increasingly inclined to provide this information in a bid to promote safety and the peace of mind to consumers, the survey said.

Such labels were most commonly found in BBQ restauarants, steakhouses and Japanese hotpot restaurants while were less common in family restaurants, Japanese restaurants and general canteens and dining halls.
