Malaysia to lift ban on frozen chicken from China

Malaysia has agreed to lift its ban on the import of frozen chicken parts from China, Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced Wednesday (Sep 13).

Malaysia agreed to lift the ban after meeting with China's agricultural minister, who gave assurances its frozen chicken would be free from bird-flu.

Despite the assurances, Malaysia would still send a team to China to verify areas supposedly free from bird flu and import from those areas only, the minister said.

Yassin said that once cleared, the Malaysian government would allow private companies to import frozen chicken from China.
