Russia's Samara Region seeks fodder grain
Vladimir Artyakov, the governor of Russia's Samara Region, has applied to the Russian government for assistance in providing the region with fodder grain.
"We have enough grain, but fodder is a real problem, we need 500,000 tonnes of fodder grain," Artyakov told Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on September 11.
Artyakov estimated the cost of the damage caused in the region by the recent drought at about RUB5.6 billion (US$180 million). The region has lost about 50% of its grain harvest this year, he said. Now the main concern in the region is to save cattle, he said.
