*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Market analysis

Supplies of methionine were abundant while the demand softened as most feed millers have stocked some inventories. Although feed demand was stable due to the pre-festive buying, sales of methionine were not exceptionally strong amid prudent mood.

In Europe, prices of methionine slid to the range of EUR2.90-3/kg. Distributors readily negotiated prices while supply exceeded demand.

Market forecast

The break during Mid-Autumn Festival will decimate the sales of methionine. Even though feed millers are expected to expand inventories after the break in preparation for early October's long holidays, methionine market is less likely to firm up with supplies plentiful.
