Brazil's January-August agribusiness exports up 1.8%

 

 

In the first eight months of 2012, Brazil's agribusiness exports generated US$62.5 billion, an increase of 1.8% on-year.

 

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, last month, shipments reached US$8.8 billion, a fall of 10.5% over August 2011.

 

According to the ministry, the products that were most significant in the export market for the year were soy, with exports of US$21.4 billion, meat products at US$10 billion, sugar and alcohol, forestry products and coffee.

 

The items that registered the greatest growth in foreign sales were live animals (53.4%), soy products (20.3%), aside from fibre, textiles, beverages and tobacco.

 

Over the last 12 months, agribusiness shipments totalled US$96 billion, growth of 8.8% over the previous 12 months.

 

Exports to China grew the most, by 46.1%. The ministry said other export hot spots were Egypt, with growth of 40.9%, Venezuela (36.2%), Thailand (33.3%) and South Korea (31.8%).
