Brazil: Slaughter cattle inspection improves
Research by the Centre for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (CEPEA) shows that Brazilian beef is becoming safer as the number of cattle slaughtered without sanitary inspection falls.
Over 90% of slaughtered cattle were inspected in 2012, much higher than in previous decades.
Strengthening within Brazil's legal sanitary structure, including technological advances and management within the industry were underlined as factors for improved inspection.
Non-inspected beef figures for Minas Gerais was15.2% and Para 12.2%. Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Goias all had non-inspection figures of between 5 and 6%.
