Vietnam's new bird flu strain unlikely to spread to Thailand
As there have been no imports of poultry from neighbouring Vietnam, the new deadly bird flu strain is unlikely to spread into Thailand.
The new fatal avian flu, believed to be a mutated strain of the previous H5N1 virus, has killed two people and resulted in over 180,000 poultry being culled in Vietnam, Thai News Agency TNA reported.
Pornthep Siriwanarangsan, director-general of the Thai Ministry of Public Health's Department of Disease Control said that Thailand has continued to monitor the virus which has kept the country free from human and poultry infections since 2006.
According to him, bird flu usually transmits from birds to humans.
