Russia may sell 15 percent of meat import quotas
Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service has proposed selling 15 percent of meat import quotas on a commodity exchange, the antimonopoly service's press office said Thursday (Sept 10).
Â
The rest of the quotas would be distributed among importers in proportion to their imports in 2009.
Â
The proposal was sent to the government and the Economic Development Ministry.
Â
The sale of part of the quotas on a commodity exchange will enable new companies to obtain access to meat imports and make it possible for companies that already operate in the market to increase their share using market mechanisms, the antimonopoly service said.
Â
The government's ruling that regulates meat imports expires this year and regulation of meat imports in 2010–2012 is currently under discussion.
