India's Al Kabeer plans meat processing plant in Saudi Arabia

India's Al Kabeer group, a meat processor, has announced plans Monday (Sep 10) to establish a processing plant in Saudi Arabia.

The company made the decision due to growing demand for its products in the Kingdom and surrounding regions, Ghulam Muhammad Shaikh, managing director of Al Kabeer Exports Ltd., said.

The project would be the company's sixth plant.

The company has four processing plants in operation, two in India, one each in the UAE and the UK. The company's fifth processing plant would come online in Dubai in November.

Known more for its mutton products, the company also produces processed foods from seafood, chicken and vegetables.

Al Kabeer products have not only become popular among the Saudis, but also with major catering companies, Zaid Muhammad Al-Shabibi, chairman of Al-Jufailah Corporation, the sole agent for the group's products in the Kingdom, told local media.

Founded in 1974, the group has evolved into a multi-product business with processing units in more than 15 countries.
