India 2007/08 soy output seen to increase by 1 million tonnes

 

 

India's soybean production is estimated to reach 8.6 million tonnes during 2007-08, by 1 million tonnes, the country's Central Organisation for Oil Industry and Trade (COOIT) said in its first advance estimates for 2007-08.

 

In 2006-07, soybean production stood at 7.66 million tonnes.

 

The country's groundnut production is expected to increase to 4.6 million tonnes from 3.5 million tonnes, a COOIT statement said.

 

Soybean in India is a kharif crop or autumn harvest planted in June and harvested in the month of October.
