Singapore Food Industries breaks ground for integrated pig farm project in China

Singapore Food Industries (SFI) has broken ground for its integrated pig farm (IPF) project in Jilin province, China.

The 100,000-square metre site is amongst the more than 40 potential sites identified for the project that sit within the proposed Disease Free Zone.

The IPF was first mooted by the Jilin City Government and is part of the Jilin Food Zone project. It will consist of an integrated end-to-end supply chain, from feedmill and breeding to slaughtering and processing.

To be developed over six years with an eventual production of one million pigs annually, the IPF aims to be recognised as the first foot and mouth disease-free zone in China by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and the World Organisation for Animal Health.

SFI will take a 30% equity stake in the new joint venture company that will run the project.

The construction of the breeder farm is expected to be completed in about nine months, after which the joint venture partners will be selecting an international breeding company for the supply of breeder pigs.
