Poland sees grain surplus in 2010

Grain production in Poland this year will likely be of poorer quality than in previous years, but quantity will be above local demand, said Poland's Agriculture Minister Marek Sawicki.

"There won't be a shortage of grain and bread in Poland," he told a press conference. "The quality of grain may be weaker than last year, but there's no risk for consumption. There won't be a shortage of consumption grain both from storage and this year's harvest, and Poland will be a country with a surplus."

Poland was hit by massive floods in May and June that affected its agriculture sector.

The country's statistical office said earlier this year, the grain harvest would be at 25.1 million-26.1 million tonnes, 7-10% lower from last year.
