Brazil's Big Frango to build fifth poultry facility

Brazilian meat packer Big Frango has announced plans to build a chicken meat producing complex in Mato Grosso state, its fifth plant in the country.

The company¡¯s marketing director, Sergio Vrena said the complex would consist of poultry farms, a feedmill and a slaughterhouse.

The company picked the site due to the low soy and corn prices and the fact that the land would be donated by the municipality.

The complex is scheduled to start operations in the first half of 2009 and have a daily slaughter capacity of 500,000 birds initially.

About 70 percent of the output would be sold domestically while the remainder would be exported.

The company has three other chicken facilities in southern Parana state and one in southeastern Sao Paulo.
