Poland to produce 29 million tonnes of grain in 2009
Volatile weather conditions this season did not harm the grain production capabilities of Poland, which will harvest 28.7 million tonnes, according to an analyst from a government institute on Tuesday (Sept 8).
Latest grain production estimates by the main statistics office projected Polish grain production in 2009, excluding corn, at 26 million to 27.2 million tonnes, up six percent on-year.
Weather will improve yields, which are larger than previously expected, said Wieslaw Lopaciuk, analyst at the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics. He said there was no rain during the harvest.
Polish basic grain output is projected to reach 27.05 million tonnes, up from the previous estimate of 24.6 million tonnes. Corn output is expected to reach 1.68 million tonnes, down from a forecast of 1.86 million tonnes.
The average yield is seen at 3.37 tonnes per hectare, up from the previous estimate of 3.16 tonnes.
