Brazil to export pork to Vietnam
Brazil will export pork to Vietnam after the Southeast Asian country resumes meat imports from areas unaffected by foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), according to the Brazilian Pork Industry and Exporter Association (Abipecs).
Â
Abipecs said that Brazil plans to send a delegation headed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply to Vietnam to study local pork market.
Â
Abipecs chairman Camargo Neto said that Vietnam is known as one of the world's largest pork consumers with its annual supply of 2.5 million tonnes and has to import the product to meet its soaring demand.
Â
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) forecast that Vietnam will import around 30,000 tonnes of pork this year.
Â
Currently, Brazil is the biggest meat exporter in the world. The country earned US$583 million from exporting 294,478 tonnes of pork in the first half this year.
