Tajikistan, China sign agricultural collaboration deal

The agriculture ministries of Tajikistan and China have signed a cooperation agreement in the agricultural sector in Dushanbe on September 6.

A source in the country's Agriculture Ministry said that this agreement had been signed as part of a visit of a delegation from Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region [XUAR] led by a deputy minister of the agriculture department of XUAR, Li Hunyun, to Tajikistan.

According to the source, a meeting between Tajik Agriculture Minister Qosim Qosimov and the head of the delegation, Li Hunyun, discussed developing bilateral cooperation in such fields as plant cultivation, cattle breeding, poultry farming and so forth. The sides also discussed creating joint ventures to process agricultural products.

The agreement also envisages cooperation in building permanent greenhouses, as well as cooperation in fishery, honey bee farming and poultry farming.

"The Tajik Agriculture Ministry presented to the Chinese delegation for consideration a draft cooperation programme between Tajikistan and China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region for 2010-15. The programme envisages processing of raw cotton by using a new technology," the source said.
