The Emerald Group buys Philp Brodie Grains

A major Australian grains enterprise The Emerald Group says it is expanding into Queensland, with the purchase of Philp Brodie Grains, a trading company in Toowoomba in October.

Group chairman Alan Winney says with the new takeover they'll be able to turn over between 250,000 and 300,000 tonnes of grain a year.

He says the acquisition means Emerald now has a major presence in the Queensland market.

"We will continue to run the business as Philp Brodie Grain. It'll run out of Toowoomba and we're hoping to also put an office into Central Queensland as part of the process," he says.

"We'll probably add some more resources to the business and hopefully increase the amount of grain that we can acquire through the Philp Brodie brand in Queensland," he adds.

The Emerald Group has also announced it will open new offices in Victoria and South Australia and two new premises in Western Australia.
