Australia destroys cattle in Victoria on anthrax

A knackery in Victoria's Goulburn Valley has destroyed seven cattle after a second outbreak of anthrax in a week.

Anthrax is a bacterial infection that can get into cattle from soil.

The two cases are unrelated, so the Victorian Department of Primary Industries has called in epidemiologists to investigate the reason for the outbreaks.

Veterinary officer Dr John Ryan said it is unclear if there will be more cases but it is abnormal to have two cases at this time of the year.
