Avitech launches new toxin binder against mycotoxins

Press release

Avitech has launched Avsorb Forte, a new toxin binder for adsorption of mycotoxins in feed.

A synergistic blend of organic acids, selected silicates and activated carbon, Avsorb Forte has been tested against aflatoxins at the company's Nutrisys Centre for Animal Nutrition.

Avsorb Forte is the result of research aimed at producing a broad-spectrum toxin binder, and is able to not only bind mycotoxins, but also bacterial endotoxins and pesticides, Avitech claims.

According to the company, the silicates utilised in Avsorb Forte are highly effective. Various clays were analysed for different parameters such as surface area adsorption capacity, CEC, and aluminum silicate ratio before the specific clay was selected for Avsorb Forte.

Activated carbon provides wider toxin adsorption capacity to Avsorb Forte. Activated carbon present in Avsorb Forte has a MB value of 250, which indicates its mesoporocity.

Mesoporocity covers predominantly medium pore size, which is an important indicator of activated carbon's ability to adsorb toxins of medium-large size. Aflatoxin adsorption percentage becomes constant at MB value higher than 250 milligrams/gram.

The organic acids in Avsorb Forte possess inhibitory action against mold growth.

Avsorb Forte is recommended at a dose rate of 1 kilogram/tonne of complete feed.
