Malaysia to set up integrated halal abattoir

An integrated halal chicken abattoir will be built in the near future for easier monitoring of the slaughtering process by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), to ensure the halal status of the poultry.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the project, which would be privatised, could not be implemented earlier due to allocation problem.

"The privatisation of the project is the best move as it will offer more room for the experts to manage it themselves," Nong Chik said.

He said a suitable site in Selayang had been identified for the project, but the land acquisition process would probably take some time.
