FCStone Pegs US Corn Crop At 10.887 Billion Bushels
FCStone, a major U.S. commercial grain brokerage firm, now forecasts the 2004-05 U.S. corn crop at 10.887 billion bushels and the U.S. soybean crop at 2.902 billion bushels, a company official said Friday.
FCStone forecasts the 2004-05 U.S. corn yield at 148.4 bushels per acre and the average soybean yield at 39.4 bushels, the official said.
Currently the U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts the 2004 corn crop at 10.923 billion bushels with an average yield of 148.9 bushels and the 2004 soybean crop at 2.877 billion bushels with an average yield of 39.1 bushels.
The USDA is scheduled to update its production forecasts for the 2004 corn and soybean crops Sept. 10.
Last month, FCStone forecast the 2004 U.S. corn crop at 10.938 billion bushels and the U.S. soybean crop at 2.982 billion bushels.
In 2003, the U.S. produced a 10.114-billion-bushel corn crop and a 2.418-billion-bushel soybean crop.
