China's methionine suppliers lift prices despite record imports
Prices moved higher during the week ended August 26. Imported dl-methionine transacted in the range of RMB31-32/kg. Meanwhile, prices of locally produced methionine were at RMB30/kg.
The supplier of one major methionine brand lifted prices, prompting other suppliers to follow suit. However, most buyers were not eager to stockpile inventories as customs data showed that China shipped in more than 13,000 tonnes methionine during July, setting a new import record.
Looking ahead, methionine demand should improve gradually with animal inventories increasing. Prices are expected to rise in the coming period.
