Brazil 2007/08 soy harvests seen up by 6 percent
Brazil could expand its soy plantings by 6 percent to 21.2 million hectares, according to a preliminary estimate of planting intentions made Tuesday by the country's National Commodities Supply Corporation, or Conab.
Silvio Porto, logistics director for Conab, told reporters in Brasilia that total output would likely fall between 59.1 million and 61.2 million tonnes in 2007-08.
Brazil plants soy in October. The country harvested around 58.4 million tonnes in the 2006/07 season.
A detailed report on planting intentions for soy and other grains is due out next week.
Brazil is the No. 2 soy producer behind the US.
