Degussa prepares to restart second DL-Methionine plant in Antwerp
Press release
Degussa's Feed Additives Business Unit has announced that modernisation of its second existing DL-Methionine facility in Antwerp, Belgium, is on schedule.
In 2006, Degussa completed start-up of DL-Methionine production in its new 120,000 tonnes capacity plant in Antwerp, which is supported by additional production facilities for the raw materials acrolein, methyl mercaptan and hydrocyanic acid. At the same time, the second existing DL-Methionine plant in the area was taken out of service and modernised.
Despite bird flu impacts in early 2006, worldwide DL-Methionine demand is growing continuously. In response, Degussa has decided to reactivate the second plant in the second half of 2008, which would then bring the company's total DL-Methionine name plate annual capacity to about 350,000 tonnes.
