China's CNGOIC cuts forecast for 06 corn, rice output
China National Grain and Oils Information Centre, a major government-backed think tank in China's agricultural sector, said Tuesday (Sep 5) that it had cut its forecast for output of corn for 2006 by 1 million tonnes, from its forecast in August, mainly due to the ongoing drought.
China's corn output is expected to hit 141 million tonnes in 2006, up 1.2 percent on-year, according to the CNGOIC.
The corn output would probably decrease by 2.63 million tonnes in Chongqing municipality, Sichuan and Liaoning provinces, which are currently suffering from a severe drought.
However, the loss would be compensated by production increase in Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shandong and Henan provinces to some extent, it added.
The following table includes the CNGOIC's estimates in September of this year's output and acreage of major crops.
