Pakistan sees significant rise in seafood exports to EU

Pakistan has seen a significant rise in seafood exports to Europe since the EU lifted its ban in mid-August this year.

Industry reports indicated that Pakistani seafood exports to the EU for 2005-06 would be much higher, if the current rate of exports to Europe continued for the next few months.

Pakistani seafood exports to the EU have hit about US$4.16 million in less than two weeks, following the lifting of the EU ban, industry reports said. In particular, there was a major rise in shrimp exports to almost all the EU member states, along with good prices, which had risen to US$3.5/shrimp from US$2.5/shrimp the previous month.

The country's seafood exports had suffered about US$30 million in losses during the EU ban, industry reports said.
