Ukraine prepares for EU meat market

Ukraine meat exporters are gearing up for exports to EU amid the region's complicated regulations, local media reports.

Ukrainian State Veterinary Medicine Committee head Peter Verbitsky said the committee decides whether to grant Ukraine the right to issue permits on livestock exports to EU countries.

European experts have already inspected a number of Ukrainian enterprises, and "gave green light" to some of them on export of eggs, dairy products, poultry and beef to the European Union.

Verbitsky said the next talks in September-October will result in the final approval of these exports to EU.

He said so far 10 Ukrainian companies, specialising in beef processing, has filed an export petition but only four of them actually meet the requirements and strict EU standards.

Verbitsky said that the situation with dairy enterprises is more complicated, because the Ukrainian dairy products are mostly failing to meet EU standards.
