UK pig genetics firms develop importation protocol
Britain's major pig genetics companies and their vets have introduced a protocol for the importation of live pigs into the UK.
The companies, which are members of National Pig Association's (NPA) Breeding Companies Committee, already employ health standards that exceed statutory requirements, and this is reflected in the protocol.
The rules cover stock from both new and existing sources and are designed to protect against all major pathogens of concern to UK pig health.
It is important that anyone intending to import live pigs or semen into the country does so using the protocol, says NPA.
