Romania's pork imports up eight times
In the first five months of this year, Romania imported 45,498 tonnes of pork, eight times more than the shipments made over the same period.
Pork imports totalled more than EUR77 million (US$97 million) January to May, up from EUR8.033 million (US$10.1 million) made from exports in the five months for a quantity of 5,369 tonnes of pork, either fresh or refrigerated.
The biggest quantities of pork were imported from Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Austria and Denmark.
Romanian pork imports were down 23.4% in the first five months of this year as compared to last January-May from 59,446 tonnes to 45,498 tonnes at the end of this May; their value was by 16.7% lower, i.e. from EUR92.5 million (US$116 million) to EUR77 million (US$97 million), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced.
Romania imported and exported pork both from and to the EU and non-EU markets.
