China's live poultry market reopens

The live poultry section of the Sanjiaodi Wet Market in Hongkou District of Shanghai, which reopened recently, is the biggest of its kind in downtown Shanghai covering more than 200 square metres.

Shanghai now has 79 live poultry markets, eight in downtown areas. These were all shut down in April, during the H7N9 bird flu outbreak which killed 45 people in China. Shanghai is to phase out its live poultry markets and will not open any new ones.
