Land O'Lakes subsidiary recalls eggs on possible salmonella contamination
Moark, a Land O'Lakes Inc. subsidiary, is recalling nearly 292,000 eggs that may be contaminated with salmonella, the company said.
Moark is recalling repackaged eggs sourced from Hillandale Farms, one of two Iowa producers responsible for a widespread recall due to an alleged salmonella contamination.
President and CEO Craig Willardson said none of the eggs were produced by his company. Moark acted quickly to notify the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and keep customers safe, he said.
Earlier, Wright County Egg voluntarily recalled specific Julian dates of shell eggs produced by their farms on fears of salmonella contamination. According to reports, 228 million eggs were recalled.
Eggs affected by the recall were distributed to food wholesalers, distribution centres and foodservice companies in California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Moark, a subsidiary of the Arden Hills-based food and agricultural cooperative Land O' Lakes, is based in Fontana, California.
