Minneapolis Grain Exchange August volume climbs 37 percent
Volume at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange climbed in August from the previous month, the exchange said Tuesday (September 1).
Total volume was 118,252 contracts traded, up 37 percent from July, MGEX said in a press release. That included an increase of 36 percent in the flagship hard red spring wheat contract and a 75 percent increase in options trading.
The exchange reported that August open interest increased by 6 percent over the same period a year ago, to 43,531 contracts, up from 42,452 contracts in July. Electronic trading totalled 97,093 contracts in August, making it the third-highest electronic trading month in the exchange's history.
MGEX trades hard red spring wheat futures and options. HRS wheat is used to make bread.
