Ukraine July-August grain exports down on-year

Ukraine exported 3.63 million tonnes of grain in July-August, the first two months of the current marketing year, the country's agrarian association announced Tuesday (September 1).

Grain exports in July totalled 1.7 million tonnes and in August 1.93 million tonnes.

The association didn't give figures for comparison but, according to the agriculture ministry's past reports, Ukraine exported 4.147 million tonnes of grain in July-August 2008.

The agriculture ministry said earlier that if its forecast of grain harvest this year proved correct at 42-43 million tonnes, grain export in the current marketing year, July 2009-June 2010, would be 17 million tonnes.

Ukraine exported 24.5 million tonnes of grain in the 2008-2009 marketing year.
