An eFeedLink Exclusive Report
Compared to the same period a year ago, China's vitamin C exports rose by 24.86% to a total of 30,200 metric tons in the first half-year of 2004. But, export revenue fell by 12.24% to US$154 million.
China's vitamin C export prices have been falling significantly since the beginning of this year, due to price pressure from middlemen in International markets coupled with the expanded production in China.
As a result, the average export price has fallen by 29.7% compared to the same period last year, from US$7.24/kg to US$5.09/kg.
The drop in vitamin C prices has been anticipated. Active efforts by China's Vitamin C Manufacturers Association has effectively helped to regulate export prices, putting them on par with global prices. This has helped to slow down and mitigate the fall in vitamin C export prides.
