Tatarstan's grain harvest fall 85% in 2010

The gross grain harvest in Russia's Tatarstan has amounted to 700,000 tonnes this year, down 85% on-year, said the republic's first deputy agriculture and food minister, Minsagir Nurtdinov, Tuesday (Aug 31).

Nurtdinov attributed the drop to a prolonged drought caused by unusually hot weather. He added that despite the drop in grain output, the constituent republic is to be able to meet its demands.

As of late August, Tatarstan has a grain fund, which contained 222,700 tonnes of grain. Moreover, 274,000 tonnes of grain is being stored at the republic's elevators, according to him.
