Indonesian province H1 frozen shrimp exports down 14.2 percent
Indonesian province of Lampung's frozen shrimp exports in the first half of 2009 fell 14.2 percent to US$169.15 million from the same period a year earlier.
Despite the drop, frozen shrimp exports contributed 10.12 percent of the province's total non-oil/gas exports worth US$1.67 billion over the period, head of the Lampung Provincial Industry and Trade Office, Suparmo, said on Sunday (Aug 30).
Data from the office show the province's frozen shrimp exports in July 2009 went to the US, Belgium, Britain, Canada, Hong Kong and Japan.
Four companies are currently engaged in the production and export of aquatic products in Lampung. They are PT Central Pertiwi Bahari (CPB), PT Central Proteina Prima (JSX:CPRO), PT Indo American Seafood, and PT Indokom Samudera Persada.
Most of big ponds in Lampung are found in Tulang Bawang district, while medium and small-scale shrimp ponds are found in East Lampung, South Lampung and Pesawaran districts.
Frozen shrimp is one of the province's key export commodities.
