Brazil's soy export to Middle-East countries doubles

Brazil's soy exports to Middle-East countries in the first seven months of the year is almost triple that for the same period in 2005.

Brazil exported US$52 million worth of soy to Arab countries in the first seven months of this year, compared to just US$16 million last year.

Arab countries imported 219,000 tonnes of Brazilian soy in grain in the first seven months of this year, according to the secretary general at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Michel Alaby,

Middle-East countries are relying more on alternative suppliers as increased demand in China tightens supply across the globe.

According to Alaby, soy is used in the food industry in the Arab world, but part of the product shipped to the Emirates is also re-exported.
