China's Beijing resumes Sichuan pork deliveries after outbreak

In late August this year, Beijing resumed cross-province deliveries of live pigs and other pork products from Ziyang and Neijiang, two cities in Sichuan province that were the epidemic centers of the recent pig disease outbreak, a senior Sichuan official said.

However, Guangdong authorities said the province, as well as Hong Kong, have not lifted the ban on transportation of live pigs from Sichuan. In addition, frozen pork products from Sichuan would still be strictly inspected.

The deadly pig bacteria, streptococcus suis, had earlier claimed about 40 human lives during the outbreaks in Sichuan.
