Disease outbreak detected in Brazilian shrimp farm

 

 

Brazilian veterinary authority has reported the discovery of infectious hypodermal and haematopoietic necrosis virus at a marine shrimp farm at Canavieiras in Bahia state.

 

The Brazilian veterinary authority sent Immediate Notification dated 26 August to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

 

The report describes the discovery of the infectious hypodermal and haematopoietic necrosis virus at Canavieiras in Bahia state on July 30.

 

The virus was found during a routine PCR test at a marine shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) grow-out farm in a semi-closed saltwater production system. The population showed no clinical signs of the disease.
