Ending stocks of Canada's grain and oilseed crops in the 2009-10 crop year will be higher than an earlier projection but carryover will still be lower than the 2008-09 level, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's market analysis division said Friday (Aug 28).

Ending stocks of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2009-10 were forecast at 10.186 million tonnes. This was up from the August 7 forecast of 9.905 million tonnes but below the 2008-09 level of 12.525 million.

Production of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2009-10 was forecast at 59.465 million tonnes. This was up from the August level of 59.261 million tonnes but significantly below the 2008-09 level of 72.635 million.

The eight major grains and oilseeds are canola, flaxseed, soy, wheat, oats, barley, corn and rye.

Total exports of the eight major grains and oilseeds in 2009-10 were pegged at 29.158 million tonnes, down slightly from the early August projection of 30.075 million and well below the 2008-09 level of 33.550 million.

Total domestic usage of the various grains and oilseeds for the 2009-10 crop year was estimated at 35.975 million tonnes. This was up slightly from the early August forecast of 35.485 million tonnes but lower than the 2008-09 level of 39.077 million.

August 28 estimates for Canadian 2009-10 and 2008-09 grain and oilseed supply and demand. Domestic usage numbers include food and industrial use as well as feed, waste, and dockage.
