Pig prices stabilising across Europe

EU's pig prices are stabilising across the European finished pig market last week.

Prices in France and Germany rose slightly followed by prices in Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium. Denmark and Spain has stable prices.

Prices in the UK fell as the extra production accumulated during the foot-and-mouth disease ban recently would have to be sold off.

Overall the EU's prospects for exports are getting brighter, analysts said. One example is that of Danish Crown, a pork cooperative which announced it is expanding its range of pork exports to China to include high-quality parts such as shoulder and neck. Previously, parts exported by the company only included lower value parts such as offal, trotters and ears.
