PIG to address swine production questions in US state of Nebraska
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the US Pork Centre of Excellence (USPCE) have opened up an information resource for pork producers in the state of Nebraska.
Dubbed the Pork Information Gateway, or PIG, it is a virtual library where pork producers can find information on swine and pork production. The website includes peer-reviewed information from swine researchers and a question and answer section.
Producers can log on and search for answers to their questions. Alternatively, they can submit a question to be answered by the USPCE.
The system a culmination of three years work by extension specialists nationwide, allows pork producers to find timely and practical information immediately, said David Meisinger, executive director of the USPCE.
The programme would add the questions asked by producers to their database, making it an ever-growing resource.
There are two governmental agencies, two industry associations, seven state pork producer associations and 20 land-grant universities involved in the USPCE.
Producers can log onto the PIG website at nebraska.porkgateway.org/web/guest/home and register for a free account.
