Province in central Vietnam hit by foot-and-mouth disease

Vietnam's central Thanh Hoa province has seen 159 animals, mostly cattle, infected with foot-and-mouth disease over the past few days, local media reported Tuesday (Aug 29).

Since Aug 18, 159 animals have been infected by foot-and-mouth disease, among them 154 buffalos and bulls, the newspaper Young People said, quoting sources from the provincial Veterinary Bureau.

The bureau has transported 5,600 doses of foot-and-mouth vaccines to affected areas and carried out disinfection of the premises and have set up quarantine zones around the areas.

The disease has hit 103 communes in 12 cities and provinces nationwide, affecting nearly 3,580 cattle and 1,310 pigs, according to Vietnam's Department of Animal Health.
