Russia's far-eastern territory starts FMD vaccination on cattle
Russia's far-eastern Maritime Territory would start a large-scale vaccination programme to protect cattle from FMD, or foot-and-mouth disease, according to local authorities.
FMD had recently been reported in some districts within the region.
The local agricultural department said over 150,000 vaccines against the Asia 1 (FMDV-Asia 1) virus had been delivered to the region, while 160,000 more were expected soon. This would allow all cattle at state and private farms to be vaccinated.
Local authorities also said a detailed register of Maritime cattle would be drawn up and free cattle transportation would be banned.
