Manitoba pig sector to profit from high US pork prices

Record high US pork prices are pushing Manitoba hog producers toward achieving profit profitability.

This is due to soaring US pork exports, according to Tyler Fulton, director of risk management with Manitoba Pork Marketing.

The record prices are set at a time when North American supplies are excessively high, Fulton said.

US pork exports have also been boosted by the weakened dollar, which makes the meat more affordable than before.

Fulton is waiting to see what will happen next when North American production numbers peak in October and November.
