India to issue more tenders for wheat
India plans to issue more tenders to import wheat this year without specifying volumes, Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said Tuesday (August 28).
"More tenders (to import wheat) will be floated - it will be a regular phenomenon (in 2007)...and the practice of not specifying volumes to be purchased will be institutionalized at least for this year," Pawar said on the sidelines of a government function.
A government official had said on August 21 that a series of such open-ended tenders are in the offing. The first tender in the series was issued on August 24 and will close on August 29.
