Smithfield confident of more pork purchases from China
Smithfield is hopeful that China would be placing more orders for pork purchases after an unnamed Chinese pork importer bought 60 million pounds of pork from the company last week.
Calling the purchase a "modest milestone", the company is hopeful that it would be the beginning of a longer-term and growing association.
Smithfield, which processes about 14.5 million hogs annually, estimated China's hog shortfall at about 100 million hogs.
